A Notable Career as a Panera Bread Franchisee

In 2000, Steven entered the franchise industry as an owner/operator of Panera Bread. He established six franchise outlets across southern Minnesota and western Wisconsin, managing over 350 employees in these locations. He divested his franchise business in 2019 after nearly two decades of sustained growth and development.

His role as a franchise owner was multi-faceted, encompassing operations, financial management, team leadership, marketing, and overseeing multiple sites. He excelled in driving consistent year-over-year sales increases and maintaining high-quality standards. His franchises were consistently ranked in the top five nationally for customer satisfaction among Panera franchisees.

Steven crafted and executed a robust personnel strategy, appointing general managers for each location and a district manager to spearhead regional strategic planning. He was deeply involved in managing his workforce and ensuring compliance with employment laws, along with the HR director and accountant. Known for his hands-on leadership style, he often interacted with customers and staff across his stores.

Additionally, he was instrumental in training and developing his staff, working closely with a regional training manager to maintain high standards for training managers and associates. His direct marketing efforts were tailored to align with Panera Bread's national branding while also adapting to the dynamics of the local markets. This significantly contributed to his franchise's growth and new locations opening.

Steven launched all six Panera locations, supervising everything from the management of physical sites to staff hiring and training. His leadership saw the stores achieve impressive sales growth year after year, and his team of 32 managers accrued over 300 years of combined experience at Panera by the time he sold his franchise.
